Hymn Analysis: Suggested Instructions

The RE Teacher's Manual specifies that the RE class hymnal worship time is 10-15 minutes. It is very beneficial for RE students to spend time singing the words of God and praising God. Use this time to help them to remember the main message of the lesson and to build a heart of worship.

Benefits of Hymnal Worship Session:

  1. It can set an appropriate mood of the entire RE class, especially for the main worship session, and the life application activities afterward.

  2. It will train the students to focus and listen carefully.

  3. It will show the students the beauty of unity and harmony through hymn singing.

How to Prepare a Hymn:

  1. Find a hymn related to the main topic or the memory verse.

  2. Identify the main message, Bible references, and keywords of the hymn.

  3. Analyze the musical elements that enhance the lyrics.

  4. Find the best tempo to bring out the expression of the hymn.

If there is a refrain in a hymn, encourage the students to memorize it for joining the congregational singing at the end of the closing prayer in a service.

"Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." – Eph. 5:19
