Choir Guidelines
(Effective Date: 11/8/2024)
Article 1: Purpose
The establishment of the church choir is to praise God, preach the gospel, minister to believers, and nurture the spiritual growth of choir members.
Article 2: Organization
Choir Membership:
In principle, choir members should be baptized church members and demonstrate a sincere desire to participate in the choir. However, local church council may make exceptions for truth-seekers when necessary.
To attain God’s abidance, choir members should strive to be holy, and their motivation for joining the choir must be pure.
Conductor Approval:
The conductors must be appointed or approved by the church council.
Choir Groupings:
The choir can be organized into different groups (e.g., children’s choir, youth choir, adult choir, senior choir) depending on the specific needs of each church.
Choir Teams:
The choir should have the following teams:
Conductor team: Responsible for leading the choir and coordinating all related communication.
Accompanist team: Responsible for providing musical accompaniment for the choir.
Librarian team: Responsible for distributing, collecting, and preserving music scores.
Administrator team: Responsible for managing choir uniforms, budgeting, and other administrative tasks.
Article 3: Training
Choir practices should follow a well-designed schedule (e.g., weekly or bi-weekly) and training plan.
Members are expected to be punctual, adhere to guidelines, and foster a spirit of teamwork and unity within the choir.
Article 4: Funding
The choir should prepare an annual budget, which must be submitted to the church council for approval.
Choir funds should be used in alignment with the church’s overall activities and goals.
Article 5: Attire
Choir attire should be neat, simple, and respectful, ensuring a unified and presentable appearance.
Article 6: Principles for the use of musical instruments
The type and use of musical instruments should be appropriate for the size of the venue and the nature of the event.
Volume should be moderated to avoid overwhelming the congregation, and styles with strong secular associations should be avoided.
Article 7: Occasions for choir ministry
Evangelical services and spiritual convocation.
Fellowship gatherings.
Thanksgiving gatherings.
Weddings.
Funerals.
Article 8: Matters needing attention
Choir members should understand that singing is an act of praising God with gratitude, rather than seeking attention and recognition for themselves.
If a choir piece includes a solo, the soloist should remain within the choir formation, without standing in front or being prominently distinguished from the other members.
All choir activities must be closely coordinated with the church council to ensure alignment with other ministries and benefit both the choir and the church.
The choir of each church should be under the guidance of the evangelical and/or pastoral affairs of the church council.

The prerequisite of the formation of a choir and members in the view of the Bible. (2011 WDC-10, TRC: 8-6)
Resolution:
Choir serves, exalts, gives thanks and praises God.
The choir members shall possess the following spiritual prerequisites:
To attain God’s abidance, their lives must be holy (2 Chr 20:21; Ps 29:2).
The motivation of participating in choir must be pure (1 Cor 10:31). They sing and praise God with a thankful heart (Col 3:16).
Since choir presentation is part of the holy work, choir members must in principle be members of TJC but in exceptional cases, individual local church councils make their own decisions.
