Hymn 80 - The Strife is O'er

Main message: Alleluia, Christ has overcome death.

Interpretation notes:

  • This hymn is attributed to Giovanni P. Da Palestrina. 

  • The opening introduction has three consecutive ascending ‘alleluia’ phrases. 

  • The strophic part has three melodic phrases plus a final ‘alleluia.’ 

  • The first and third melodic phrases are identical, while the second phrase is lower. 

  • The final ‘alleluia’ uses the same melody as the third ‘alleluia’ in the introduction.
