Interpretation notes:

• The tempo highlights the differences between death and life. 

• In the section describing death, the tempo is slow, the melody stays mostly in the lower register, and the rhythm uses quiet quarter and half notes. 

• In the resurrection section, the tempo is faster, the melody moves upward, and dotted rhythm is used. 

• In the last section, ‘He arose!’, the music imitates the sound of a trumpet. 

• The last phrase slows down on ‘Christ–Arose—!’
