Hymn 371 - In the Hour of Trial

Main message: Rely on Jesus in the midst of trials.

Interpretation notes:

  • This hymn uses harmonies. 

  • The first line, second measure, has harmonies on the words 'trial,' 'pleasures,' 'send me,' and 'cometh.' 

  • A D# diminished 7th harmony moves to a C major chord. 

  • There is a pattern and sequence in m. 9–10 and m. 11–12; the second time is marked f. 

  • The final two measures use only one note: G. 

  • A crescendo followed by a decrescendo appears on the keywords 'me,' 'Calvary,' 'care,' and 'eternal.'
