Hymn 295 - Foot Washing Sacrament

Main message: The meaning of foot washing sacrament.

Bible references:

  • V1. "pure" (Matthew 5:8)

"humble" (Matthew 11:29)

"to wash me clean and whole" (John 18:10)

"have a part with Him" (John 13:8)

  • V2. "stains...made clean" (Philippians 2:15)

  • V3. "walk in sin no more" (Isaiah 55:7)

  • V4. "spotless" (2 Peter 3:14)

"live in me" (Galatians 2:20)

Keywords: Savior, pure, humble, clean, whole, free, have a part with Him, sin no more, spotless, live in me

Interpretation notes:

  • The hymn uses a gentle, rising-and-falling melody set to a repeating rhythmic pattern: a half note, two quarter notes, and a half note.

  • The second and fourth systems vary this pattern by replacing the first half note with two quarter notes.

  • The straightforward melody and rhythm support the text about purity and the solemn sacrament.

295 (Notated Score)

"Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." – Eph. 5:19
