Hymn 207 - I Know Not the Hour

Main message: We do not know when Jesus will come, but it will be glorious and joyful.

Bible references:

  • V1. "I know not the hour" (Matthew 25:13)

  • V2. "Jesus our King" (Revelations 17:14)

  • V3. "welcome" (2 Peter 1:11)

Keywords: know, hour, Lord, come, home, presence, glory, me, song, angels, Jesus our King, music, mansion, name, Saviour, welcome, heaven

Interpretation notes:

  • The lyrics 'And that will be glory/music/heaven for me' are repeated on the same note.

  • The repeated notes create a place where performers may naturally shape a crescendo to maintain momentum.

  • The melodic motion that follows moves gradually upward or forward, and the phrase closes with a stronger sense of arrival at the final statement of 'And that will be glory/music/heaven for me.'

207 (Notated Score)

"Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." – Eph. 5:19
